Our Mission
FastBMI exists to make accurate, science-backed health information freely accessible to everyone β without requiring an account, subscription, or personal data.
What Is FastBMI?
FastBMI is a health and wellness platform with free calculators designed to help users understand key body-composition and nutrition metrics in a clear, practical format.
Our tools cover Body Mass Index (BMI), daily calorie needs, ideal body weight estimates, and metabolic-rate calculations based on established formulas used in health and nutrition practice.
We built FastBMI on a simple but powerful principle: health information should be free, accurate, and completely private. Every single calculation happens entirely within your web browser using client-side JavaScript. We never store, transmit, collect, or have any access to the health data you enter. Your personal health information stays exactly where it belongs β with you.
Why We Created FastBMI
The idea for FastBMI emerged from a simple observation: while there are countless health calculators available online, most suffer from one or more critical flaws. Some require unnecessary account creation. Others collect and monetize user health data. Many use outdated formulas or fail to explain the science behind their calculations. And far too many are cluttered with intrusive advertisements that compromise the user experience.
We set out to create something different β a clean, fast, educational platform where anyone could access professional-grade health tools without compromising their privacy or wading through marketing gimmicks. The result is FastBMI: a resource we're proud to offer completely free of charge to anyone seeking to better understand their health.

The Science Behind Our Calculators
At FastBMI, we take scientific accuracy extremely seriously. All formulas used in our calculators are sourced directly from published, peer-reviewed medical research. Below is a comprehensive overview of the scientific foundations behind each of our tools:
Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator
Our BMI calculator uses the standard formula established by the World Health Organization (WHO):
BMI = weight (kg) Γ· heightΒ² (m)
This formula was developed by Belgian mathematician Adolphe Quetelet in the 19th century and has been adopted as the international standard for assessing body weight relative to height. The WHO classification system categorizes BMI as follows:
- Underweight: BMI below 18.5
- Normal weight: BMI 18.5 to 24.9
- Overweight: BMI 25 to 29.9
- Obesity Class I: BMI 30 to 34.9
- Obesity Class II: BMI 35 to 39.9
- Obesity Class III: BMI 40 or higher

Calorie Calculator (TDEE & BMR)
Our calorie calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which is considered the most accurate formula for estimating Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) in modern clinical practice:
For men: BMR = (10 Γ weight in kg) + (6.25 Γ height in cm) β (5 Γ age in years) + 5
For women: BMR = (10 Γ weight in kg) + (6.25 Γ height in cm) β (5 Γ age in years) β 161
The resulting BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to calculate Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).

Ideal Body Weight Calculator
Our ideal weight calculator incorporates four established medical formulas, each developed for specific clinical applications:
- Devine Formula (1974): Originally developed for calculating drug dosages. Men: 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet. Women: 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet.

- Robinson Formula (1983): Refined for more accurate pharmaceutical dosing. Men: 52 kg + 1.9 kg per inch over 5 feet. Women: 49 kg + 1.7 kg per inch over 5 feet.

- Miller Formula (1983): Developed as an alternative estimation method. Men: 56.2 kg + 1.41 kg per inch over 5 feet. Women: 53.1 kg + 1.36 kg per inch over 5 feet.
Source: Miller DR, et al. "Ideal body weight calculation." Archives of Internal Medicine. 1983.
- Hamwi Formula (1964): One of the earliest ideal weight formulas still in use. Men: 48 kg + 2.7 kg per inch over 5 feet. Women: 45.4 kg + 2.2 kg per inch over 5 feet.

Understanding BMI Limitations
While BMI is a useful screening tool, it's important to understand its limitations:
- BMI does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass. Athletes with high muscle mass may have elevated BMI despite having low body fat.
- BMI does not account for fat distribution. Abdominal fat (visceral fat) poses greater health risks than fat stored in other areas.
- BMI categories may not be equally applicable across different ethnic groups. Some populations may have higher health risks at lower BMI thresholds.
- BMI is not designed for children, pregnant women, or the elderly without appropriate adjustments.
For a complete health assessment, BMI should be considered alongside other measurements such as waist circumference, body fat percentage, and clinical health markers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is FastBMI really free?
Yes, completely free. All our calculators and health content are available at no cost, with no registration required. We sustain the platform through non-intrusive advertising while keeping all features accessible to everyone.
How accurate are your calculators?
Our calculators use the same formulas employed by healthcare professionals worldwide. The Mifflin-St Jeor equation (used in our calorie calculator) has been validated in numerous clinical studies as the most accurate predictive equation for estimating resting metabolic rate. However, individual results may vary, and these tools should be used as general guides rather than precise medical measurements.
Do you store my health data?
No. All calculations are performed locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your health data (weight, height, age, etc.) is never transmitted to our servers. We have no technical ability to access or store your personal health information.
Can I use FastBMI for medical decisions?
FastBMI is an informational and educational tool, not a medical service. While our calculators use clinically-validated formulas, they cannot replace professional medical advice. Always consult with a qualified healthcare provider before making significant changes to your diet, exercise routine, or health management plan.
Why do different ideal weight formulas give different results?
Each formula was developed for different clinical purposes and populations. The Devine formula, for example, was originally created for drug dosage calculations, while others were refined for general population estimates. We display multiple formulas so you can see the range of "ideal" weights, which is more realistic than any single number.
How often do you update your content?
We review our content regularly to ensure it reflects current medical guidelines and research. Major updates are made when significant new studies are published or when health organizations revise their recommendations. Each page displays its last update date for transparency.
